Kentucky Makes The Cut For Two 3 Star Football Players

Tahj Gary, a 3 star running back out of Georgia, and Ruke Orhorhoro, a 3 star defensive end out of Michigan, have trimmed their lists down to 8 and 4, respectfully.

Updates On PJ, Wenyen and Jarred (2 Days Left Edition)

KSI has heard a new scoop of info in regards to Jarred Vanderbilt, Wenyen Gabriel and PJ Washington. Some good, some bad. TJ Walker’s post on KSR backs up what KSI has heard, and hopefully our sources are both correct. The only difference between his post and ours is in regards to Jarred Vanderbilt

To sum it up and keep it short and sweet (you guys know all of the details surrounding the decisions based on our former updates), Jarred Vanderbilt is 100% coming back. In regards to PJ Washington and Wenyen Gabriel, things have changed. Because of issues with a lack of playing time, Wenyen will be doing the opposite of whatever PJ’s decision is. If PJ comes back, Wenyen leaves. If PJ leaves, Wenyen comes back.

PJ Washington Sets Decision Date (Jerry Tipton)

Kentucky freshman PJ Washington will make his NBA Draft decision next Wednesday, according to his dad. Let’s hope and pray that we don’t have to wait until midnight to hear from him like we did Hamidou Diallo last year.

Kentucky DB Marcus Walker Arrested On Drug Trafficking Charges

Kentucky defensive back Marcus Walker was arrested in Lexington on Wednesday night. Walker faces 3 charges: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trafficking Marijuana ( >5 pounds) and Trafficking a Controlled Substance ( > or = 4 grams of cocaine).

Walker, a Florida native and former 3 or 4 star depending on the recruiting service, didn’t see the field much outside of special teams in his first few seasons in Lexington.

The Latest On Wenyen, Jarred and PJ

Sources close to Kentucky’s basketball program have given KSI the latest scoop, once again. The information isn’t groundbreaking, but there’s a more positive tone around the 3 wildcats than in weeks past.

As KSI reported yesterday, Wenyen Gabriel is being advised to return to school by NBA scouts and general managers. Wenyen is weighing his other options, such as the G League or overseas. It’s more likely that he would end up developing his game in the G League than going across the pond to play. Scouts like certain parts of Gabriel’s game, such as his potential as a corner 3 specialist, but they think he’s far from an NBA contributor. Several scouts have said they view him as a 4 year player. Wenyen figures to be a key piece of the Wildcats’ puzzle next year, being the veteran glue guy to go with the incoming youth on the roster.

Jarred Vanderbilt isn’t participating in any physical activity for teams, he’s only available for the interview process. KSI has heard that Jarred will 100 percent be back in a Kentucky uniform next season. BBN has yet to see him fully healthy and conditioned. If he can stay away from the injury bug, Jarred Vanderbilt will be one of the better players in the country. He still has to work on his shot. A lot. However, his rebounding tenacity, passing ability and ball handling ability for his size are traits you can’t teach.

PJ Washington, on the other hand, is far from a lock to either leave or come back. His Instagram post last night left BBN scrambling for answers. It’s hard to figure out subtle hints from kids’ posts on social media, however. Washington has had a good showing at the combine and in some workouts. In some workouts, he’s looked “just okay” as KSI is told. Washington has a lot of different voices in his ear as his decision nears. Hopefully he listens to Cal’s voice above all others and returns to Lexington next season.

We will all find out the players’ decisions within a week. Until then, KSI will post any updates that we hear.

Wenyen Gabriel Update

After Wenyen Gabriel wasn’t invited to the NBA Draft Combine, it was safe to assume that he’d be back in school, right? One would think so. However, BBN has been out in full force on message boards and Twitter talking about how Wenyen’s family was in dire need of money. This lead into the thought of him being content to play overseas just to get to the money faster. However, these rumors cannot be confirmed as anything other than message board gossip. Wenyen has had multiple family members graduate college and Wenyen is one semester away from graduating himself.

The kicker is, Wenyen has always wanted to be a pro. However, according to the scouts and management of the teams he has worked out for, it’s clear that Gabriel should return to school. There’s been a consensus that his game isn’t ready for the league yet. Multiple scouts told Wenyen straight up “Go back to school and work on your game”.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. He has a lot more of his game to develop. The problem, however, is the apparent culture with kids around the Kentucky Basketball program that you’re “a failure” if you’re an upperclassman. Maybe (hopefully) with a former 5 star returning for his junior season Gabriel, that would help change the culture. As John Calipari says, “Not every player is on the same time table”.

Wenyen, Jarred and PJ have a week to make their final draft decisions.

Catching Up With UK’s #1 RB Option For 2019, Aidan Robbins

KSI caught up with Manual RB Aidan Robbins over the weekend. It’s become known in the last week or so that UK’s coaching staff is turning the heat up on the in-state prospect, even putting him at number 1 on their big board of running back prospects. Some schools have recruited Robbins as a linebacker while others have recruited him as a running back. Kentucky coaches prefer him at running back because of his stout frame to go along with his speed and catching ability out of the backfield.

Q: It’s become know that you’ve been considered UK’s first option at running back, what was your reaction when the coaches told you that?

A: I was very content to hear that, especially from a prestigious program like Kentucky and getting to play running back in the SEC. And also, being from Kentucky.

Q: Does them making you their number one option at running back help Kentucky’s chances in the long run?

A: Yes  Yes indeed.

Q: Was your preference to play running back or linebacker in college?

A: I’d say I’ve always preferred to play running back.

Q: Do you have any friends in the Louisville area that you’d like to play with in college?

A: Yessir. JJ Weaver, Shawnkel Knight-Goff, Milton Wright, Wandale Robinson. All those guys are my friends. There’s a lot more, but way too many to name. But those guys are definitely the main ones.

Q: Is Vince Marrow your lead recruiter now?

A: Yessir.

Q: What’s your opinion of Marrow?

A: He’s a great guy. Like Shawnkel said, he’s like a father figure other than my real father, you know. My father away from home. He’s recruiting me really hard and he’s been real with me through the whole process. Yessir, only good things for Vince.

Q: What sticks out most about UK from other schools?

A: Definitely the conference and the campus. The amount of school spirit they have and the fans. The networking and connections they have nationwide. The Big Blue Nation is really huge. That’s something I’ve known about all my life but I didn’t know the inside track of it all until now when I’m actually being recruited by them.

Q: What do you feel are your best attributes at running back?

A: My size, definitely. My speed. A lot of people mistake that for my my size, but I’m fast. You know, when Rivals drops my camp video, you’ll really be able to see my running skills. I can really catch the ball. I can do it all…run, catch, I’m downhill and I fight for extra yards. I’m different from your average back.

Q: Anything you feel like you need to work on at running back?

A: Everything, you know. Bigger, faster, stronger. That’s the name of the game. Footwork is key.

Q: Have you visited Kentucky recently? When is your official visit?

A: My official visit is June 22nd-24th. I was just up at Kentucky 2 to 3 weeks ago. I’ll be up there this weekend for my track meet as well.

Q: Do you have any leaders in your recruitment?

A: No sir, I’m just now dropping a list of my top schools.

Q: When do you plan to commit to a school?

A: I definitely want to be committed by the start of my season.
